Saturday
Night, October 4th, at Talladega Short Track in Talladega, Alabama ...
Jackson
scored another victory!
Jackson, driving the
C.C. Holt owned Monte Carlo Street Stock, took the checkered flag over the
defending track champion in a 3-wide race to the finish line.

Tired,
but victorious, the KHR crew returned home from Talladega, Alabama Monday after
spending the weekend at the Talladega Super Speedway and Talladega Short Track.
The guys went to the track to work as crew members for the DBR (Darrell
Basham Racing) team for the ARCA race. They were able to bring home a 17th
place finish for the #34 car driven by ARCA racing veteran; Darrell Basham.
On Saturday night family friend;
C.C. Holt, offered Jackson the use of his Monte Carlo Street Stock car for the
Talladega Short Track race. Jackson didn't hesitate.
Starting 7th in a field of 18 cars, Jackson was able to move up into 5th
place after two laps. Following a caution on the third lap he was able to
move into 4th place. The third place car left the track with mechanical
problems after a caution on the sixth lap and Jackson was in 3rd place for the
restart. After two laps he was able to get under the leader going into
turn four. The track champion took the outside line and, coming off turn
four, it was a three wide, side-by-side race into turn one. Coming off
turn two Jackson was able to hold off the track champion and the other cars for
the first place slot, which he held onto past the checkered flag. This was
Jackson's third career feature race win!
The check went to the car and the trophy (as well as the thrill of victory)
to the driver.
Ironically it was C.C. Holt that, in some ways, was responsible for Jackson
getting into racing. Nine years ago C.C. convinced Ken (Jackson's father)
to buy a racing kart for Jackson. Ken did and the rest, as they say, is
history.
This was C.C.'s first win on this new Super Stock car. C.C. had not
owned a race car since 1990, so this was his first win in 18 years.
JACKSON
CELEBRATED HIS 16TH BIRTHDAY ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 19th, 2008!
The celebration included his grandparents, parents and friends. Now
Jackson can get his driver's license and be legal to drive on the highways of
America. YIKES!
JACKSON
WON HIS HEAT RACE & FINISHED THIRD IN THE FEATURE ON SUNDAY 8/17/08!
This was the second race
of the five scheduled Detroit Iron Pro Stock
Series 20-lap races. Competition was fierce and, although Jackson's car
developed a bad push, he was able to hang on for a third place finish.
Currently Jackson is in first place in the Detroit Iron Series points race.
Sunday night also ended
the points races for the Pro-Stock class for the season. Unfortunately,
due to rain ... rain ... and more rain, only half of the races were run.
Jackson finished in 6th place in points for the season.
JACKSON
WON HIS HEAT RACE & THE FEATURE ON SUNDAY 8/3/08!
Last
night was a special-event race; one of five scheduled Detroit Iron Pro Stock
Series 20-lap races. There were a large number of competitors at the track
which necessitated the running of three heat races. Jackson’s car looked like
it was on rails as he burned up the track to take the win in his heat race.
Jason Reagle, the current points leader, won his heat race and defending Detroit
Iron Pro Stock Series champion Bobby Whitling won his heat race as well.
Jackson’s feature race
victory came in the first William R. Karns Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning
Detroit Iron Pro Stock Series event of 2008. The five-race series will dominate
the last few weeks of the year after three rainouts earlier this season and
seasoned drivers from all across the tri-state area come to compete in this
special-event race. In addition to the regular purse money, each feature winner
collects an extra $100.00 for the Coors Bonus Bucks award.
Fifteen-year-old
phenomenon Jackson Humanic of
Titusville, Pa.,
demonstrated that
he is a future
dirt track star as he captured the Detroit Iron Pro Stock Series 20-lap main
event after a stirring battle with racing
veteran Dave Ferringer. In a race that almost seemed like a passing of the
torch, Jackson dueled with Ferringer in an extremely close race, finally taking
the lead on the ninth circuit. Jackson was then able to hold
off the former track champion (Ferringer) to capture his
second feature
win of the year and his Pro-Stock career aboard Ken Humanic Racing’s River
Salvage Co./Blue Ox Timber Chevrolet No. 17.
"I have a lot of respect
for Dave, and it's an honor to beat him," said Jackson from the Winner’s Circle.
"I want to thank my dad and ARCA car owner Darrell Basham for helping to setup
the car tonight. We were at Pocono helping him [Darrell] yesterday. This is my
biggest win, and it feels great."
Andy Buckley led the
first circuit of the race from his pole position before outside pole sitter
Ferringer used the high line in turn three to take the lead on the second
circuit. Jackson was in third by the third lap, and he then raced hard with
Ferringer for the win. With Ferringer comfortable in the high groove, Jackson
drove under him several times to try to take the lead. Each time, Ferringer got
the best of him. The amazing battle continued for six laps before Jackson
finally made the pass for the lead at the start-finish line on the ninth
circuit. Just after the leaders crossed the line, the first caution of the race
for a spinning car waved.
On the restart, Jackson
maintained command of the race. Only one other caution slowed the pace, but it
did not faze the young star. Behind him, Ferringer held off Jason Johns to
finish second. Division point leader Jason Reagle parlayed a poor pre-race draw
of the 12th starting spot into a fourth place finish. Chris Haines finished
fifth.
After
the feature Jackson’s fans lined up at Autograph Alley for a chance to meet our
young champion and get his autograph. Jackson is always personable and he is
certainly a fan favorite.
The day before the
Tri-City Speedway race (Saturday) Jackson acted as crew chief for ARCA #94
driver Jason Basham at the Pocono Raceway “Pennsylvania ARCA 200” race. The
team was performing very well when a broken fan belt on the 54th lap
took their car out of the race.

| Jackson Humanic, dubbed the "TEENAGE SENSATION", is the
15-year-old driver of the KHR Chevy Monte Carlo dirt oval ProStock car. |
In 2006 Jackson Humanic moved from kart racing to
dirt oval track stock cars. At age 13 he was the youngest driver
to start a race in Tri-City Speedway's history. He was named the
Tri-City Speedway Rookie of the Year for 2006. He finished the
2007 season 10th place in the points for his division. For the
2008 season he is once more behind the wheel of the KHR Chevy Monte Carlo.
Jackson proved his abilities on the track
and, after an
excellent run in kart for five years, is confident and comfortable
behind the wheel of the Monte Carlo. Jackson is the son of Ken &
Christy Humanic

History:
His
first time on the track, then 8-year-old driver Jackson Humanic took
the KHR kart to victory. After a second place finish in the heat
race, Jackson
drove for the checkered flag for a first place victory in the
feature! When asked about his racing strategy, Jackson simply
explained that, "I got all the way into the throttle and didn't let
up 'till the race was over.". Jackson took the # 17 kart to
the Winners Circle 16 times over the next five years. His average speed on the
1/8th mile dirt tracks was a little over 33 miles per hour
and achieved speeds of nearly 40 miles per hour. Jackson's trophy
case is overflowing with evidence of his racing ability.
For the 2006
racing season 13-year-old Jackson Humanic took the wheel of the KHR
Pro Stock dirt oval Chevy Monte Carlo. It was a big step for this
young racer, moving up from five years in racing kart. Taking on a
half-mile dirt oval track behind the wheel of the Pro-Stock car was
a challenge, but it was one that Jackson felt he was ready to
accept. Prior to the beginning of the season Jackson and then fellow KHR
driver; Gerry Bruce, agreed that Gerry would run the special event
races where the competition is more aggressive and less predictable
than in the weekly races. This meant Gerry would run the five
Detroit Iron Series races which included the year-end AppleFest 100
lap race and Jackson would race the regular season races.
The
season-opener was on April 30th, 2006 and Jackson ran a smooth,
clean race, finishing on the lead lap in 22nd place out of a 26 car
field without incident. The next race he finished 15th and crossed
the checkered flag in 12th place the third week.
The 4th race
of the season offered a preview of where this young driver was
heading in his racing career when he won the heat race to put him on
the outside pole for the feature. Jackson finished 14th in the
feature, staying up with the pack the entire race.
It was no
fluke that he won his heat race as he proved the next week, when he
repeated his heat race victory, then finished 18th in the feature.
In the following six races he finished 9th, 7th, 9th, 17th, 12th and
18th respectively, celebrating his 14th birthday the day before the
10th race of the season.
There was no
doubt that Gerry was to drive the number 17 car in the AppleFest
100, if for no other reason than his provisional. A couple of weeks
before the race Jackson got an interesting offer from the father of
one of his pit crew members that he couldn't refuse. Nathan
Kellogg;s father; Rusty, had raced along side Jackson all year and
offered to let Jackson use his car if he wanted to try to make the
field at the AppleFest 100 race. If Jackson accepted he would have
to install the Eagle race team's spare engine and drive train and
set the car up for the grueling 100 lap event ... and there was not
much time to do so. Jackson conferred with his dad; Ken, and it was
agreed that Jackson could try to make the field.
It was a long
shot. All the top contenders from neighboring tracks as well as the
top drivers from Tri-City Speedway; 41 cars in all, would be vying
for the coveted 26 feature slots. Fifteen drivers would be sent
home. Four 8 lap heat races would be run and only the top four out
of 10 cars in each heat race would be tapped for a place in the
feature. In addition, those cars not making the feature by way of
the heat races would have a second chance in one of two B Main
races, with the top four in each joining the field in the feature.
Two drivers would have provisionals for the race; KHR's Gerry Bruce,
the 2005 track champion and this year's track champion,
Bobby Whitling.
Up against these experienced drivers, Jackson would have his work
cut out for him.
Jackson and
his crew worked hard and got the car together. On race day there
were two cars in the KHR pit; the orange and black number 17 piloted
by Gerry Bruce and the 47X car, on which Jackson had pinned his
hopes.
Pills were
pulled for which heat race the drivers would run. Jackson pulled
the second heat race and Gerry, the forth. Then they pulled pills
for their starting position in those races. Gerry pulled the pole
position for the heat race. Jackson was not so lucky ... he was to
start in 7th place.
The cars took
the track for the heat race and Jackson was ready. Out of the gate
he moved up to 5th and then, on the 2nd lap made his way to 4th. He
dropped back a spot to 5th on the 3rd lap and it looked like he
wouldn't make the feature by way of the heat race, but on the sixth
lap he gained two places, moving into third and was able to hold
that place to assure himself a starting spot in the 2006 AppleFest
100 race!
The KHR Pit
was ecstatic! Jackson had done what many felt was impossible, but
the hard part was still to come ... the punishing 100 lap race.
Jackson
started 10th out of the 41 cars that qualified for the race. He
held on to his center of the pack position, staying out of trouble
and picking his line, while teammate Gerry Bruce stayed in the top
three spots for the entire race. When the dust had cleared and the
checkered flag fell Jackson had not only finished the race, but had
taken 5th place, only 3 spots below Gerry! Jackson and his dad;
Ken, were overwhelmed with excitement. What a great 2 - 5 finish
for the KHR race team!
Jackson not
only had his best finish of his Pro-Stock racing career ... he was
named the Atkinson Fire Safety Rookie of the Race.
The 2006
season wrapped up and Jackson proved himself as an upcoming force to
be reckoned with on the track. Although he is respectful of other
drivers, Jackson is no shrinking violet behind the wheel. He has
proven himself to be a contender. At the annual Tri-City
Speedway banquet, in January, Jackson was named the
2006 Rookie of
the Year!
We are 4 races into the
2008 season and
Jackson is in 2nd place in the points race at Tri-City Speedway, his home
track. He is trying out other tracks as well and is driving up
front with the best of the best.
Jackson
has hobbies other than racing. He enjoys fishing, dirt bike
riding, horseback riding, swimming, metal sculpting and driving
anything with wheels. Forklifts, flatbed one-ton trucks,
cranes, motorcycles ... if it has wheels and a motor, Jackson will
drive it.
